Leadership Cabarrus is an annual program offered to Chamber members who hold mid- to upper-level management positions within their companies or organizations. The selection process is intensive and a strong emphasis is placed on a demonstrated history of volunteerism in the community. Class size is limited to 35 participants.
The program begins in August with a class reception, followed by a mandatory day-long Saturday retreat. Full-day sessions begin in September and are held once a month through May. Alumni plan and host sessions that take participants from the training grounds of law enforcement to behind-the-scenes tours of high-tech healthcare, motorsports, and manufacturing to the inner workings of local government and educational institutions. High-level leaders from business, education and government provide briefings to the class and entertain questions.
Each class is charged with completing a class project that contributes to the quality of life in the Cabarrus region. Past projects have included a health and human services directory for Spanish-speaking residents that was eventually incorporated into CTC telephone directories; "Home Buyers' College" designed for Habitat for Humanity and their clients; Public Interest Focus Group that became the chamber's "Candidates' Forum", revitalization of the Crime Stoppers program and creation of the "Cabarrus Care Fair" for citizens who wish to offer volunteer service to area nonprofits (for more information about the fair, go to www.volunteercabarrus.biz). The Class of 2008 will be creating an "Olympic Town" for the 2008 Special Olympics Spring Game to be held at the Cabarrus Arena.
Participation: Chamber members who are in mid- to upper-level management positions are eligible. A recommendation from the employer or another Chamber member is required.
